Supporting Mentors Scheme

The Supporting Mentors Scheme was a new commitment from the February 2020 ‘Update to the GP Contract agreement 2020/21–2023/24’.

This scheme upskills experienced GPs and provides a portfolio working opportunity by developing a cohort of locally based and highly experienced doctors to support their own more junior doctors through mentoring.

GPs on the scheme are provided with funded training and once trained, GP mentors are reimbursed to conduct one session of mentoring every week.

GP mentors are connected with newly qualified doctors on the New to Practice Programme and to support them to embed into the local general practice environment and become an integral part of the local primary care team.
