This face to face event is designed to showcase the possibilities of portfolio working and it will cover what is involved with GP appraisal. Attend this session to:

  • Hear from Portfolio GPs and how they managed to create and build their careers and find opportunities
  • Explore your own motivations to find fulfilling careers
  • Discover approaches for growing your career in the way you want to

Contracts and Industrial Action

Want to know the latest on the collective action and what this means as an early career GP? This session is co-delivered with the Local Medical Committee (LMC) where we’ll delve into what collection action means and the implications that this may have for you, your practice, and your patients—as well as the impact it could have on your day-to-day work. Hear from the LMC on their three key missions this year: ensuring safe working conditions, fair pay, and stopping the transfer of inappropriate workload from hospitals to GPs. This is your chance to gain insight into the steps being taken to safeguard your profession.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise What is Covered Under the GMS Contract: Identify the core elements of a GMS contract, what work is included (and what isn’t) and where GPs are taking on additional tasks outside of their contractual obligations.
  • Understand the Challenges Leading to Potential Industrial Action: Explore the increasing pressures, workload demands, underfunding and mission creep that have driven GPs toward considering industrial action to protect their profession.
  • Examine the Impact of Industrial Action on GPs and Practices: Learn about the potential implications of industrial action, including how it may affect GP workloads, patient care, practice operations, and individual livelihoods.
  • Discover the LMC’s Strategies for Safe Working, Fair Pay, and Workload Management: Understand how the LMC is advocating for GPs with initiatives focused on safe working conditions, fair remuneration, and preventing inappropriate workload transfers from hospitals.
