Nottinghamshire GP Phoenix Programme has been successfully coordinating this scheme locally since 2020. Now in its fourth year, the Trailblazer scheme is aimed at supporting practices and GPs working in areas of health deprivation. It offers funded education and development opportunities to early career GPs who are interested in health inequalities, whilst helping those practices that care for patients living in deprived areas to create attractive posts to recruit and retain their GP workforce.
Fifteen inspiring and enthusiastic GP colleagues have been Trailblazer Fellows since we started and have undertaken project work on a range of areas impacting deprivation health, such as creating a videos for asylum seekers about navigating the NHS, developing a new F12 template for improving postnatal care, and setting up a new local sexual/women’s health clinic. Find out more about our scheme and our existing Trailblazer Fellows.
If you are interested in hosting a Trailblazer Fellow in your workplace you will need to complete an application form and submit this by 17th May 2023. Further details about the scheme including eligibility of employers and GPs can be found here. If you are an early career GP who thinks they could be a Trailblazer, please get in touch by email at info@phoenixprogramme.co.uk. There is also scope for mid-career GPs to get involved, if they feel the scheme would be beneficial.
